Throughput of Tuapse Sea Commercial Port (TSCP Group, part of UCL Holding) in six months of 2018 fell by 10.7%, year-on-year, to 6.8 million tonnes
The decrease should be attributed to a 29.4-percent fall in transshipment of liquid bulk cargo, to 2.65 million tonnes. TSCP handled all oil products provided for transshipment.
At the same time, H1’2018 results show a growth in transshipment of dry cargo — to 4.1 million tonnes (+7.7% versus HI’2017). The fall of coal transshipment to 1.45 million tonnes (-10.8% Y-o-Y) was compensated by a considerable growth in the segments of ferrous metal and grain.
In the first half of 2018, transshipment of ferrous metal grew by 15.7% to 1.5 million tonnes. The growth was mainly driven by shipments of slabs which surged by 36.4%, year-on-year. The upward trend in ferrous metal segment is the result of successful partnership with the port’s strategic partner - the NLMK Group, increasing the efficiency of operational cooperation. In addition, TSCP Group was consistently implementing its development program, including the modernization of its berths and storage facilities, the upgrade of a fleet of gantry cranes and rubber-tired vehicles.
Handling of grain exports increased by 27.2% to 1.2 million tonnes. Strong growth in the commodity volume was due to demand prevailing in grain export markets and to constant improvement of routine handling operations by the TSCP Group, in particular, the synchronization of railcars spotting for unloading and docking of ships for loading.
In the reporting period, TSCP handled 20,600 tonnes of fruits and vegetables, which were not handled in the same period of the previous year.
The volume of exports, which forms the bulk of TSCP throughput, fell by 12%, yea-on-year, to 6.7 million tonnes, while imports and coastal trade volumes totaled 101,000 tonnes.
Between January and June of the year, TSCP Group handled 332,000 commercial ships (165 dry cargo carriers and 167 oil tankers) and 58,000 railcars.
